As a Union College Environmental Policy major, you will have a multidisciplinary learning experience that draws on courses in the social sciences, humanities, physical sciences and engineering. Our Environmental Policy program has been designed to bring you into the discussion on our most pressing issues, such as global warming and the search for renewable energy.
This major offers four different areas of concentration: Environmental Law and Management; Environmental Problems and Response; Marine Studies; and Energy and Sustainability. Hands-on opportunities are built into every aspect of the program.
You can take advantage of our Alaska Summer mini-term; Australia (Brisbane) and Brazil (São Paulo) terms abroad; mini-terms in Iceland, New Zealand, Peru and the Adirondacks; and a community service mini-term in Louisiana. Environmental Policy juniors can also pursue an internship with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC), which offers practical work experience in a variety of aspects of environmental regulation and policy.
Students of Environmental Policy have discovered the growing environmental movement at Union and are involved in a number of groups and clubs, including Campus Kitchens, Environmental Club, Ozone House and U-Sustain. In addition, our Environmental Science, Policy and Engineering Speaker Series regularly brings to campus leaders, consultants, scholars and others in all aspects of the field.
As an Environmental Policy major, you will be pointed on the road to such rewarding careers as a public policy analyst, an environmental lawyer, market analyst, green industries consultant and much more.
