Joseph has been an active volunteer at the Kenney Center’s Homework Help Program since September 2009, and became an official student co-leader of the center a year later.
“Naika has been an amazing leader for the Homework Program,” said Janet Sweeney, program director at the Kenney Center. “She is organized, creative and relates so well to the kids. She was a big part of the program’s success this year.”
Joseph said she interacts so well with the children because she attended a similar program when she was growing up. Experiencing the positive impact of this program inspired her to make a difference in the lives of other students.
Raised in Cranston, R.I., Joseph is a Spanish major with a double minor in sociology and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. She is also involved with the Modern Languages Department and serves as the chair of Union’s Black Law Student Association.
