Union names new senior director of communications and marketing

Gail C. Glover has been named senior director of communications and marketing at Union following a national search. Glover succeeds Jill Hungsberg, who resigned to return to her native Indiana. She begins at Union Oct. 1.

Glover will oversee the Office of Communications, whose responsibilities include media and public relations, publications, the alumni magazine, the College’s Web site and the Chronicle, a weekly internal newsletter.

Glover has more than 20 years of experience as a public and media relations professional, including the last 13 years at the State University of New York at Binghamton. She held a number of public relations positions at Binghamton, most recently as the senior director of media and public relations. In that position, she provided strategic counsel to senior administration, acted as the university spokesperson and developed the overall university media plans for offices and departments such as admissions, advancement and academic programs.

"I am delighted to be joining the Union College community and work with a team of talented communications and marketing professionals," Glover said. "For over 200 years, Union has defined and redefined liberal arts education, setting the standard for academic excellence in the 21st century. I am looking forward to helping the College build on that reputation and achieve the recognition it deserves."

At Binghamton, Glover has overseen the university’s crisis management efforts, social media activities, video initiatives, community relations and advocacy communications.

She holds a bachelor's in applied social sciences and a master's in social sciences, both from Binghamton.

"We are thrilled in College Relations to have Gail join us to lead our efforts in communications and marketing," said Steve Dare, vice president for College Relations. "Her background is perfect to help Union continue advancing its national media efforts, and her experience in a research intensive institution will help us sharpen focus on our academic programs.”
