Volunteer of the Week: Kiana Miller ’16

Bronx native Kiana Miller ’16, a double sociology and visual arts major with a psychology minor, is this week’s Kenney Community Center Volunteer of the Week.

A participant in the community service pre-orientation program, Miller also went on the New Orleans mini-term, which focuses a community service project, often involving tasks such as rebuilding homes and restoring wetlands.

She is a member of the Gospel Choir, Poetry and Improv clubs, the Black Student Union and the Women’s Union, through which she was involved in the recent Vagina Monologues production.

Additionally, Kiana works with Big Brothers Big Sisters and is a volunteer instructor for Suraiyah Abdul-Wahab’s senior project, teaching dance to local elementary school boys and girls. They had their first performance on Monday, March 11, and “Kiana changed her work hours to help. She is great with the children, always participates and does whatever is needed,” said Abdul-Wahab.

At home, Miller recorded more than 1,000 hours of community service and became the youngest ever Assistant Facilitator for the New Settlement Apartments Bronx Helpers program. She also spent her time volunteering for the Urban World and Girls Program.
