About Biological Sciences
Union offers an exceptional range of courses in biological sciences—covering areas like cell and molecular biology, neurobiology, bioengineering, environmental biology, and ecology. Students are encouraged to pursue independent research with faculty, leading to opportunities to present at the Steinmetz Symposium, attend national conferences, and publish as co-authors in scientific journals. Research fellowships and on-campus work are also available, supported by grants from agencies like the NSF and NIH.
Union's proximity to diverse ecosystems, including the Adirondacks and Albany Pine Bush Preserve, further expands field research possibilities. The fall term abroad in Australia, offered in partnership with Hobart and William-Smith Colleges and the University of Queensland, provides students an ideal setting to study diverse biological systems.
Our state-of-the-art labs in Integrated Science and Engineering Complex, Peter Irving Wold Center and other facilities house advanced equipment, such as a laser confocal microscope and isotope ratio mass spectrometer.
