About the Mathematics major
The Department of Mathematics is dedicated to helping students develop the ability to reason logically, understand abstract concepts and solve problems, and to producing versatile mathematicians who grasp the complexities in their field.
Math majors at Union take foundational courses such as calculus, geometry and probability, and also choose from courses in cryptology, number theory, discrete mathematics, game theory, knot theory and ancient Greek mathematics.
About the Statistics minor
The statistics minor is open to students from any major who wish to build comprehensive statistical skills.
As a statistics minor at Union, you will:
- Design and implement randomized scientific studies to generate reliable data
- Analyze data using regression and advanced machine learning techniques
- Develop proficiency in statistical programming languages and software tools
About the Financial and Actual Mathematics minor
This interdisciplinary minor offers a strong foundation in probability, statistics, and finance within a liberal arts framework.
Through courses in mathematics, statistics, economics, and computer science, you will gain essential analytical, statistical, and financial skills, enabling you to:
- Apply mathematical, probabilistic, and statistical methods to assess risk and uncertainty
