Mathematics Department
The Department of Mathematics is dedicated to helping students develop their abilities to reason logically, understand abstract concepts, and solve complex problems, while equipping them with the skills needed for advanced studies in mathematics. In addition to our own programs in mathematics, statistics, and financial and actuarial mathematics, our curriculum supports the College's academic offerings in the natural and social sciences, engineering, interdisciplinary studies, and Global Challenges and Social Justice.
Our department takes great pride in its commitment to excellence in both teaching and scholarly activity. Our faculty engage in research across a wide range of fields, contributing to both academic knowledge and student learning.
Mathematics majors at Union take foundational courses such as calculus, logic and set theory, linear and abstract algebra, and real analysis, while also selecting from a diverse range of specialized topics, including cryptology, differential equations, financial mathematics, geometry, knot theory, number theory, probability, topology, and more.
Students collaborate closely with faculty in various settings, from traditional lectures to research-focused courses. They also have opportunities to engage in independent research on advanced topics under faculty supervision.
