The Society of Physics Students is a national organization (part of the American Institute of Physics), with chapters at many colleges and universities nationwide. Membership is open to any student interested in physics, not just physics majors, and offers numerous benefits, including membership in professional societies, subscriptions to journals, and eligibility for scholarships, internships, and grants offered by the national organization. SPS members are also eligible for induction into Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society.
The Union College chapter of SPS sponsors a large number of social and academic activities every year, from (physics) movie nights to guest speakers to outreach to local schools. We were the recipients of Chapter SPS awards in 2009, 2010, and 2014 for our “Extensive outreach, community service, and social activities.”
