Union’s size allows us to provide a supportive environment in which students develop academically, socially and personally through meaningful interactions with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. We provide a differentiating blend of intellectual, social and cultural opportunities to facilitate that development and to support our diverse community of students.
Diversity Programs
Getting to Know Union Event
Getting To Know Union (GTKU) is a pre-college overnight experience that coincides with our fall open house. This program is designed for high school seniors from diverse cultural backgrounds to experience all that Union has to offer. Prospective students will have the chance to experience what life is like for students at Union as well as the opportunity to interact with current students and professors, attend classes, eat in our dining halls and explore campus.
Application information is typically available in late summer. All students selected for the event will have their transportation expenses covered by the College.
Welcome U for Admitted Students
Welcome U is an overnight visit program that takes place during our admitted student open houses in April. Offered to select admitted students who have not yet had the chance to visit campus, the program is designed to expand access by covering all travel costs and providing on-campus housing with a current Union student.
Participants experience life at Union through a full schedule of admitted student programming—attending mock classes, joining academic and student life panels, meeting other admitted students, touring campus, and connecting with faculty, staff and current students from across the College.
Counselors who would like to learn more are encouraged to contact Jessica Wenger '10, assistant dean of Admissions and coordinator of diversity and access engagement, at wengerj@union.edu.
