First-Year Residence Halls

STOP 8 ON THE:

Life on campus

As a residential college, Union offers a variety of living spaces designed to give students the full away-from-home experience and foster a sense of community and inclusion. First-year student residences include Richmond Hall, Fox Hall, and West College which range from double and single rooms to suite-style living or focused study housing for those who desire a quiet living space. You are assigned roommate(s) based on a comprehensive survey about your living habits and have Resident Advisors and Directors to assist you with anything related to housing.

Our Minerva Houses are a unique way of blending academic, social and residential life. When you arrive at Union, you’ll automatically become a member of one of the seven Minervas (Beuth, Breazzano, Golub, Green, Messa, Sorum and Wold), where the overstuffed couches beckon, and discussions on everything from Euclid to YouTube inspire lively debate.

Many professors teach first-year preceptorials, or seminars, in their Minerva, and some upperclass students live on the residential floors above the common areas. Each house has a great room, kitchen and seminar room. With a generous programming budget, the Minervas host more than 500 events each year, from barbecues, poetry nights and current events talks to local outings. All events are created and run by student house leaders. Faculty members share in the work and the fun.
