Lab work is a critical component of our advanced geoscience program. Many of our upper level courses involve lab work, and most of our students work in labs on research projects at one time or another. Lab safety is vitally important for maintaining our program.
First, know what you are doing beforehand. Use proper safety equipment and know safety procedures. Keep your workspace uncluttered, and check location of and access to emergency equipment, including the emergency shower, eyewash station, spill equipment, and sinks.
Safe laboratories are easy to have, if you pay attention to what you are doing and what you are doing it with.
