AWM Chapter at Union

Association for Women in Mathematics

Weekly meetings of the Union chapter of AWM will be Mondays during common hour, throughout the Spring term, in the Math Common Room, Bailey 204. All are welcome!

Professors Ellen Gasparovic and Fanhui Xu serve as the faculty sponsors of the organization.

The AWM has hosted many events, including dinners with professors in the math department, a math major meet and greet, a STEP program with local middle and high school students, a dinner/discussion/viewing of the movie Hidden Figures, and more!

Association for Women in Mathematics Holding an Essay Contest


To increase awareness of women’s ongoing contributions to the
mathematical sciences, the organizations the Association for Women in Mathematics and Math for America co-sponsor a nationwide essay contest. Contestants interview a woman or an individual from an underrepresented gender identity in the mathematics community in a mathematical career about their life and work, and then they write and submit a biographical essay based on their interview.

Act quickly! The deadline is February 1, 2025. Submissions are via Programs in Mathematics.
