Dr. Janice Thies of Cornell University will be the final speaker at Union’s 2011 Environmental Science, Policy and Engineering Winter Seminar Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Thies will discuss the “Environmental Considerations in the Use of Transgenic Crops.” She is an associate professor of soil biology at Cornell University, and has served as a consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organization and the Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Iran. Her research focuses on developing methods to assess soil biological quality, remediate degraded soils and improve soil management.
All four speakers in this year’s series have addressed the theme, “Inside the Controversy on Genetically Modified Food.”
The talk will be held in the Nott Memorial. It is free and open to the public.
