Shaniqua Rogers ’13 is this week’s Volunteer of the Week at the Kenney Community Center.
Rogers, a sociology and Africana studies major, has worked with local elementary school students through the SAIL (Studying Arithmetic in Literature) program since she came to Union. She leads volunteers to work with students to improve their math and reading skills.
Rogers, who is from Brooklyn, is a member of the Black Student Union and has volunteered for Contact Hotline and Crisis Chat. “Participating in the Union community taught me to appreciate working with great people that really want to make a difference,” Rogers said.
Janet Sweeney, program coordinator at the Kenney Center, said of Roger’s SAIL leadership: “She is a vital part of this program and of the Kenney Center.”
