Michelle Moore and Teresa Crasto are the Kenney Community Center Volunteers of the Week.
Moore and Crasto are roommates and leaders of Girl Scout Troop 2182, a new Brownie troop that runs out of the Kenney Center. They founded this troop and hold meetings every other week. Together they plan different activities for the girls to do at meetings to help them develop self-confidence and a better understanding of the world around them. The second and third grade girls have already earned several badges.
Crasto is a first-year student from Albany. She has served as a volunteer tutor at the Kenney Center and as a scorekeeper at the STEP Regional Science Bowl. She is majoring in math and English and writes for the Concordiensis.
Moore is a first-year student from Fairport, N.Y., majoring in mechanical engineering. She is involved in other Kenney Center programs: tutoring high school students, helping with our after-school programs and running the Challenge event at the STEP Regional Science Bowl.
“Teresa and Michelle jumped right in as first-year students and are making a huge impact in the community,” said Janet Sweeney, program coordinator at the center. “They are doing a great job running every aspect of the Girl Scout troop and somehow still find time to help us with other volunteer efforts.”
