Shilpa Darivemula ’13 is this week’s Kenney Community Center Volunteer of the Week.
Darivemula is a member of the Student Volunteer Committee at the Kenney Center. She has helped plan Science Day and tutor a high school student in Spanish. Darivemula also volunteers with the Backstretch Employee Service Team at Saratoga Race Course. The group helps immigrant workers at the track get access to health care, food and protective services. Back home in Washington, D.C., she volunteers at Alternative House, a home for runaway teens, and VITAS senior citizen community home.
Darivemula is a biology and Spanish interdepartmental major with a dance minor and a member of the Leadership in Medicine program. She is a features editor for the Concordiensis and resident adviser in Fox House. She also works on the Multicultural Liaison Committee, and is a member of the volunteer UCEMS squad.
“Shilpa has many talents to offer and is a great asset to us at the Kenney Center,” said Janet Sweeney, program director at the center. “Her kindness and compassion come through in everything she does.”
