Kadiatou Tubman ’13 is this week’s Kenney Community Center’s Volunteer of the Week.
An advocate for education, community service and diversity, Tubman recently spoke to the College community during Martin Luther King Jr. week on the significance of nonviolence and building bridges of understanding. She is also a mentor for the Science and Technology Entry Program, and organized and coordinated activities for on-campus students during the winter break.
“As a proud member of the Academic Opportunity Program, I am so thankful for the opportunities I am receiving from Union College. That is why I am so anxious and dedicated to making an impact on and off campus,” said Tubman, who will be interning for the Human Rights Campaign in Washington, D.C. this spring.
A history and Africana studies major from New York City, Tubman is co-chair of the Black Student Union. She is also the student co-convener of UNITAS, vice president of COCOA House and a member of both the Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir and the Heavenly Liturgical Dance Ministry. In addition, Tubman is the founder of College Bound, a social network community assisting with high school students’ college searches and applications.
