Suraiyah Abdul-Wahab ‘13 is this week’s Kenney Community Center Volunteer of the Week.
A founding member of the Kenney Center’s Student Volunteer Committee, Abdul-Wahab also volunteers with the C.O.C.O.A House and UNITAS. She also helps in the Admissions office when they require student participation in panels, as well as hosting prospective students. Abdul-Wahab volunteers with the Girl Scouts, the Science and Technology Entry Program, and other mentor programs such as the Carver Community Center’s Young Men and Women’s Empowerment Group.
“Suraiyah’s passion for education, her ability to network effectively with diverse people and her creative ideas and actions make her our go to person when we need to make a service program or an event great,” said Angela Tatem, Director of Community Outreach.
From Brooklyn, N.Y., Abdul-Wahab is a Spanish and English double major, with a minor in dance. She is also the secretary of the Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir, and has been invited for the second year to speak to high school students as part of the GE Inspire Program.
