Emily Brower ’14 is the Kenney Community Center’s Volunteer of the Week.
A student leader for the center’s American Reads program, Brower coordinates the reading program and the arts activities for the children every Friday. After reading with the children, Brower then participates in art projects such as make your own snow globe. “It's a lot of fun working with the kids because their energy and creativity fills the room - just ask them about ‘Mutant Turkey Ville’ and you'll understand,” she said.
Originally from St. Paul, Minn., Brower is an English and classics double major, and serves in various leadership positions on campus, such as treasurer for the Ultimate Frisbee club. She is also the managing editor for the Concordiensis and a photographer for the Union Book.
“Emily helped with America Reads last year and volunteered to help run the program this year,” said Janet Sweeney, program director. “She is very creative and organized, and the kids really love her.”
