Union students are once again taking trash to
task during the 13th annual Recyclemania competition.
Recyclemania is an 8-week recycling and waste-reduction competition among colleges and universities across the United States and Canada. This year’s contest began on Feb. 3 and will run through March 30.
Students are asked to properly dispose of plastic, metal, glass, paper, paint and aerosol cans and electronic waste, such as old ink cartridges, batteries and light bulbs. Students can also do their part by composting food waste and other designated compostable items at Upperclass Dining Hall.
The competition consists of eight categories: Grand Champion, Per Capita Classic, Waste Minimization, Gorilla Prize, Corrugated Cardboard, Bottles and Cans, Food Service Organics and Electronics.
In the past, the College has excelled at rallying support for its competitive recycling campaign, winning first place in the Corrugated Cardboard and Per Capita Classic categories of the competition the last two years in a row.
This year, U-Sustain hopes to keep up Union’s winning streak while striving for new triumphs in the Waste Minimization, Food Service Organics and Electronics categories.
