Stefanie Thomson ’14 of Port Perry, Ontario, Canada is the Kenney Community Center’s Volunteer of the Week.
As a member of the women's ice hockey team, Thomson, a history major and political science minor, helped host the third annual STRIDE dance, held in College Park Hall. STRIDE's mission is to educate and empower individuals with special needs in life-changing sports and recreation programs to sustain healthy, active and fun lifestyles.
The hockey team also hosts its annual Pink at the Rink weekend, which raises money for a different charitable organization, and proceeds have gone to Kristen's Kause for the past two years. They also partake in Adopt-A-Family, a sponsorship program during the holidays where the team is given a list of gifts to buy and wrap that the family cannot afford.
Thomson also visits local Schenectady schools to talk about both hockey and Canada, as many children are not familiar with the sport of hockey or Canada, and she volunteers with Habitat For Humanity. She also participates in the Garnet Games and the Schenectady Youth Hockey Association Skate and Dinner.
