"Que Rico" by Anthony Montes
A new exhibit in the Burns Arts Atrium features Latin American art that examines the experiences of migration globally and the people, ideas and objects that pass from one culture to another.
“Reality of Placement” is on display in the gallery, located in the Visual Arts building, until Nov. 22.
Exhibiting artists include Alain Gutierrez, Carlos Barberena, Carlos Solis, Dio-Genes Abreu, Ismael Checo, Karen Macher, Jamie Rodriguez, Lissette Solorzano, Alexis Mendoza, Anthony Montes, Patricia Henriquez, Jesus Rivera, Miguel Lescano, Luis Stephenberg, Ramon Peralta, Roxanna Melendez and Xavier Figueroa.
“Reality of Placement” presents artists who have a long-term relationship with their subjects and who use various mediums to break down the barriers of neighborhood, family and identity to seek to address the spaces that emerge in between them. The exhibition includes painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, mixed media, installation and printmaking.
The opening reception will be at 5 p.m., Thursday Oct. 3 with a panel discussion including several of the exhibit’s artists following at 6 p.m. in room 215 of Visual Arts. Lorraine Morales Cox, associate professor of visual arts, will moderate the panel.
The exhibit is in collaboration with the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Campus Diversity and Inclusion.
