Short, dynamic, fun: The Fall U Dance Showcase at the Henle Dance Pavilion, set for Friday at 7 p.m., will bring a burst of dance to the end of the busy term.
More than 40 students from four campus clubs – Bhangra, Hip Hop, U Break and the Dance Team – will present a range of group and solo pieces in a 40-minute performance.
“I wanted to show off our dance groups in our beautiful new studio,” said Giorgia Comeau ’16, treasurer of the Hip Hop Club, who organized the event.
Friday’s showcase also gives individual dancers who may not be able to participate in the annual Steinmetz Symposium performance or the Winter Dance Concert an additional opportunity to dance, Comeau said. Nearly all of the pieces included are student choreographed. The event is sponsored by the Dance Program.
A mechanical engineering major and dance minor from Pittsfield, Mass., Comeau will use the occasion to mark her re-entry into dancing after an 11-month hiatus due to injury.
“I’m eager to perform again. Growing up, I performed all the time, primarily with the Albany Berkshire Ballet,” she said. “I’ve been dancing for 13 years, and it’s been important for me to continue in college.”
