Tucker West ’17 was front and center on the international stage Sunday as he competed in the final day of the men’s single luge competition for Team USA.
The 18 year-old from Ridgefield, Conn. finished 22ndoverall, and placed second among the American men’s team. West is the youngest American man ever to make Olympic men's luge team.
After wrapping up his time in Sochi, he will come to Union for spring term.

Also on the Olympic stage in Sochi is Julie Chu, Union’s former assistant women’s hockey coach. Chu, who already has three Olympic medals – 2 silvers (Salt Lake City in 2022 and Vancouver in 2010) and 1 bronze (Turin in 2006) – is a veteran on the women’s ice hockey team and helped them go undefeated so far in the Sochi games. The women have already notched victories against Finland and Switzerland.
Their next game is 7:30 a.m. (EST) Wednesday against Canada, which will be televised on NBCSN.
