Nuzhat Chowdhury ’16 is the Kenney Community Center’s Volunteer of the Week.
On campus, Chowdhury is raising awareness and funds for the Malawi Mommy Bag Project, and is organizing a Mommy Bag Drive for expectant mothers. As Malawi is considered one of the least developing countries in the world, women often deliver babies in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Union will be fundraising this term to make 200 Mommy bags, which provide necessities such as onesies, diapers and medical supplies.
A neuroscience and religious studies major from Newburgh, N.Y., Chowdhury is the community service chair on the Sorum Council, as well as public relations chair for Shakti, the South Asian cultural group on campus.
She is also an active member of Muslim Student’s Association, Interfaith Youth Core and the Multifaith Forum. Prior to her first year, Chowdhury also participated in the community service pre-orientation program and volunteers with Pathways through Project Sunshine.
