The Kenney Community Center’s Volunteer of the Week is Women and Gender Studies major and Metuchen, N.J. native Brianna Gutierrez ’17.
Involved in the Malawi Club on campus, Gutierrez is also the treasurer of the Women’s Union and serves as president of the newly founded Cheer Club. Additionally, she is a host for prospective students and tour guide, sits on the Union Coalition Board and a member of both Safe Space and Leading Ladies. Gutierrez sings with both the Gospel Choir and the Chorale and works for the Office of Minerva Programs and Accommodative Services.
“Helping with the Malawi Project has really made me realize volunteering to help others is a reward in and of itself. Helping the Malawi mothers is an effort bigger than myself and have never been involved in a project like this before. It is an indescribable feeling being able to help another woman a world away,” said Gutierrez.
The Malawi Project is a fundraiser to provide essential supplies to new mothers in need in Malawi. Each $5 raised provides a bag of items including a receiving blanket and onesies for the baby and hygiene needs for the mom.
