The Kenney Community Center recognized four students, one from each class, with its Outstanding Volunteer Award at its annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet. Those that were recognized were:
Amy Loya ‘14
A bioengineering major from Bethel, Conn., Loya is the captain of the women’s basketball team and because of her dedication to community service projects was named to the 2014 WBCA Good Works Team, invited to the NCAA Division I Women's Final Four and introduced during a national semifinal game. She is active in Best Buddies, the College’s EDGE Camp for girls interested in engineering and the Midnight Run Program, which distributes food and clothing to areas of homeless individuals. She is a note-taker for her peers and a Habitat for Humanity volunteer in the community. She is also recently helped run a biomedical engineering workshop for local middle and high school students.
Gerardo Reyes ‘15
A studio arts and biology double major from Santa Ana, Calif., Reyes is a member of the Wold House Minerva Council and a singer in the Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir. He co-chair’s the annual Empty Bowls Project and also volunteers with STEP and will be a summer mentor in the science program. He also volunteers at the Center’s Friday ABC afterschool program and dances in the College’s break dancing club, UBreak.
Lauren Crupnick ‘16
A psychology major from Dix Hills, N.Y., Crupnick has helped revamp and build awareness for the College’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter, including managing student groups to build sites, making a new user-friendly website and boosting the chapter’s fundraising through new events. She is also an active member of Colleges Against Cancer as well as a big sister in the Big Brothers-Big Sisters program. She serves as the activities chairperson for Tri Delta and co-leads its fundraising for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Ariella Honig ‘17
A psychology and theater double major from Stow, Mass., Honig volunteers at the Kenney Center programs, Best Buddies, Mountebanks, Colleges Against Cancer, Safe Space and the Student Volunteer Committee. She is a member of Hillel and assists in the group’s outreach programs for students at the Kenney Center. She is a student leader in the Homework Help and Skills Development program. She is also currently in the College’s theater production, “Rhino.”
