The student leaders of the Community Experience Pre-Orientation program are the Kenney Community Center’s volunteers of the week.
Ten students arrived on campus early to lead 50 first years in the program, now in its sixth year. First years and their leaders volunteered locally in the community and learned about Schenectady. Leaders also accompanied the first years to various cultural events in Schenectady, such as a show at Proctor’s and meals at local restaurants.
Volunteers contributed to projects at many sites, including City Mission, Salvation Army, Schenectady ARC, First United Methodist Church, Girls Inc., Schenectady Historical Society, Baptist Health Nursing Home, Vale Urban Farm, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Harmony Fellowship Church and MiSci.
The program concluded with a group volunteer effort at Things of My Very Own, an organization that serves children in crisis.
