The East Asian Concert Series continues Oct. 16 with the New York Chinese Opera Society’s workshop in Henle Dance Pavilion (4-5:30 p.m.). Following the workshop, Xiaowen Xu, Bin Ma and Leping Xu will perform a classic Chinese opera, “The Emperor and the Barmaid,” at 7 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium. A comedy and a romance, the opera tells the story of Ming Emperor Zheng De, who captures the heart of a barmaid in Southern Feng Yang.
On Nov. 2, in its third and final installment, the East Asian Concert Series presents Sangah Lee, performing “The Song of Chunhyang.” The song, of the Korean pansori tradition, is the story of the son of an important official and the daughter of a female entertainer. Their love for one another transcends Korea’s social hierarchy in the 18th Century.
