Carol Weisse, professor of psychology and director of Health Professions, gave an invited talk at the national meeting of the Social Hospice Network that was held in Lansing, Mich. She spoke on “Partnering with Institutions of Higher Education to Expand Caregiver Workforce and Community Impact” to directors of residential homes for the dying from across the country.
Mary Carroll, professor of chemistry, Ann Anderson, the Agnes S. MacDonald Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Aude Bechu '16 attended the Third International Seminar on Aerogels held last month in France. Carroll and Anderson gave a talk on recent work from Union's Aerogel Lab in the area of catalytic aerogels for automotive pollution mitigation, co-authored by Bradford Bruno, professor of mechanical engineering. Anderson and Carroll also presented a poster on collaborative work with Sunthru on scaling up Union's patented rapid supercritical method for aerogel preparation. Bechu, who is currently on a Fulbright Fellowship at University of Geneva in Switzerland, presented a poster on the results of her senior thesis research into incorporation of aerogels into polyester fibers.
The RenMen recently premiered a new transcription of “Paradise” by Hilary Tann, the John Howard Payne Professor of Music, during performances in Cambridge and Boston. Her piece, “The Moor” was performed as part of an evening of songs titled “Music Like a Curve of Gold...” in Chappaqua and in New York City. She also recently participated in the Poetry and Music Forum at St. Petersburg College in Florida. The following two days she was composer-in-residence at the Music Department of the University of South Florida in Tampa. The residency concluded with a New Music Consortium concert of her recent chamber works.
Robert Hislope, associate professor of political science, was invited to join the international editorial board of Political Thought. The publication is a renowned political journal published in the Republic of Macedonia and supported internationally by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and locally by the Institute for Democracy.
