The Department of Communications and Marketing has received three Accolades awards from the Council for the Advancement of Secondary Education (CASE) for the 2015-16 academic year.
In the category of Recruitment Videos, the College received a bronze for “Convergence: Jakub Kaczmarzyk, Neuroscience and Music,” which demonstrates how Union students can work across disciplines for a truly unique academic experience. The piece was produced by The Frame Theory of Knoxville, Tenn. and overseen by Christen Gowan, associate director of Media Relations and Social Media.

Gowan also received an honorable mention in the category of Social Media for managing a campaign around #ADAY4U. The social media campaign, which included posts to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and video, and paid social media advertising, helped the College surpass its goal of 1,795 donors in a single day on April 6, 2016.
In the category of Best Articles of the Year, Charlie Casey, senior editor of Strategic Communications, received an honorable mention for “Drilling Deep: From a lake bottom in Peru, clues to climate history.” The article, in the fall 2015 issue of the alumni magazine, chronicles a large-scale field research project led by Donald T. Rodbell, professor of geology, aimed at furthering our knowledge of Earth’s natural climate cycles and the impact of human activity. Rodbell was lead investigator of an NSF-funded team of international scientists who acquired the first continuous high resolution core of sediment from beneath Lake Junin in the high Peruvian Andes. Casey accompanied Rodbell to Peru for the article.
Union will receive the awards at the CASE conference in Baltimore Feb. 27.
