Max Libre '19 and Aiyana Poulin '19 traveled with Rebecca Koopmann '89, professor of physics and astronomy, to Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson, Ariz. to observe at the WIYN 0.9m telescope. They targeted galaxies in intermediate-density groups to measure their star formation and explore how the environment of a group could be affecting the evolution of member galaxies.

Daniel Mosquera, professor of Spanish, attended the C3 Summit, "Reimaging the Academy: Constructing Inclusive and Participatory Communities in Challenging Times," held at Middlebury College, where he was part of a panel discussion, "Diversifying the Curriculum." The panel discussed questions pertaining to nurturing a consciousness of equity and power relations through curricular reform.

A paper co-authored by Carol Weisse, professor of psychology and director of Health Professions, was accepted for publication in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Her piece is titled “Providing End-of-Life Care: Increased Empathy and Self-efficacy Among Student Caregivers in Residential Homes for the Dying.”

Megan Ferry, professor of Chinese in Modern Languages and Literatures Department, was elected to serve as co-president of the Modern Languages Association's Association of Departments of Foreign Languages Executive Committee. She also presented a paper, “It's Up to Us: A Manifesto for Language Educators,” at the 2019 Modern Languages Association annual meeting in Chicago. At the event, she mentored graduate students and recent Ph.Ds on the job market for academic and non-academic career pathways in "Mentoring Workshop for Job Seekers in Languages." She also conducted ADFL counseling sessions, which providing support to members at all stages in their careers.
