A paper by Ashok Ramasubramanian, associate professor of mechanical engineering, was selected as one of the choice papers of 2019 by the ASME’s Journal of Biomechanical Engineering. His paper was one of 10 chosen of more than 100 that appeared in the journal last year.

Samuel Amanuel, associate professor of physics and astronomy, participated in the 2020 American Physical Society medal ceremony and leadership convocation in Washington, D.C. Amanuel and his peers visited the legislative offices of Gillibrand, Schumer, Brindisi, Tonko, Zeldin and Katko to advocate for an increase in federal research spending, the support of the Keep STEM Talent Act of 2019 and more.
A piece by Frank Wicks, emeritus professor, was published in the March issue of Mechanical Engineering magazine. “The Engineer Who Discovered Global Warming” discusses the life of professional engineer and amateur climatologist Guy Callendar. His 1938 paper correlated increasing global temperatures and atmospheric carbon dioxide. His work also showed more than half of the carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels remains in the atmosphere.
