Senior Counsel, Chevron Corp.
In February 1980, I volunteered to do men’s basketball at SUNY Potsdam. It was a 4-hour drive and I was doing the game solo. After the game, I made the return drive to Schenectady on dark, icy roads, and finally got to bed after 3 a.m. When I returned the equipment to the station the next day, I found out that I had cut out early in the first half, and that the station had been forced to fill the space with music. Instead of kudos for a job well done, all I got out of the broadcast was a sore throat. Despite that, I enjoyed my experiences at WRUC.
After Union, Welch graduated from Duke University Law School and then served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps in Fort Jackson, S.C. Since 1988, he has held a number of positions with Chevron, and since 2008 has been senior counsel for Downstream, Chemicals and Midstream Law.
