Tye Deines, a human resources leader with extensive experience in higher education, has been named the chief human resources officer at Union College, it was announced by David R. Harris, president of Union College.
He will be responsible for all Human Resources operations including recruitment, employment services, employee relations, training, development and benefits management, and will be a member of the senior leadership team. He will begin Sept. 20.
Since 2016, Deines has been executive director of talent management at Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business, one of the nation’s leading business schools. Before that, he spent three years in Dartmouth’s central HR organization. Prior to joining Dartmouth, Deines served as director of human resources at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H.
“Tye joins Union at a key moment,” Harris said. “ As we work to emerge from the pandemic strong, cultivating and managing a high-performance workforce has never been more important. Tye’s vast experience in recruiting, managing and retaining talented employees will be critical to meeting the goals of our Strategic Plan.”
“It wasn’t long after I first learned of this extraordinary opportunity that I knew Union was exactly where I wanted to be next,” Deines said. “Already a vibrant and vital community of students, faculty and staff, I look forward to finding new and innovative ways to strengthen and sustain Union as a magnet for outstanding staff colleagues, supervisors and senior leaders. I will very soon be coming to faculty, staff and student employees to ask how we in HR can best serve and support them.”
At the Tuck School of Business, Deines elevated organizational and team development, talent acquisition, compensation, performance management, supervisor coaching and employee relations. He led more than 100 searches for leadership and staff positions.
Before moving to his current role at Tuck, he served as a senior HR consultant with Dartmouth’s Office of Human Resources, where he provided strategic and tactical employee relations, performance management, organizational development, and staffing consultation to the president’s office and other departments campus-wide.
As director of HR at Colby-Sawyer, he served as the college’s chief HR officer and Title IX coordinator, directing workforce planning and hiring.
Before that, he held human resources leadership positions at two human services organizations -- the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless in Denver, and Good Shepherd Services in New York City.
He was HR manager for Yurman Design, a jewelry design firm in New York City; and Morgen-Walke Associates, an investor relations firm in San Francisco and New York City. He also served as assistant to the CEO at Insync Systems, a semiconductor equipment manufacturer in Silicon Valley and Austin, Texas.
Deines holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Montana, Missoula, and a certificate in Leadership and Strategic Impact from the Tuck Executive Education program at Dartmouth.
He has been a member of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources since 2012, and serves as the New Hampshire state representative on the regional chapter board.
Deines and his husband, Cameron Stevens, are thrilled about the move to Schenectady along with their two cats, Claude and Maurice. Cameron, an accounting operations specialist in Dartmouth Finance, will continue in his role remotely.
