Jeffrey Lipsitz ’87, co-president of Cortec Group, a private equity firm, has been named a term trustee on the Board of Trustees of Union College, it was announced by Robert Bertagna ’85, board chair.
Lipsitz, who earned a degree in economics from Union and an MBA from Columbia University, has been active as president of the Union Financial Network (UFN), a mentorship and networking program for students interested in careers in finance.
“It is my pleasure to welcome Jeff to the Board,” said Bertagna. “His experience in a broad range of fields will be an asset to the Board, just as it has benefitted students through the UFN.”
Cortec Group, which currently has active funds with over $3 billion of committed capital, has more than 35 years of experience acquiring primarily entrepreneur-led and family-owned middle-market companies. Lipsitz joined Cortec in 1998 as a managing director, was promoted to partner in 2005, managing partner in 2010 and co-president in 2019. He leads the firm’s healthcare investing and sits on the board of six portfolio companies.
Prior to Cortec, he was vice president of corporate development for PLY GEM Industries, Inc., a U.S. manufacturer and distributor of specialty building products. At PLY GEM, he was responsible for merger and acquisition activities, strategic planning, and financial analysis of its 10 operating subsidiaries as well as the operating performance of several businesses.
The Union Financial Network connects students interested in careers in finance with alumni, parents and friends who work in a broad range associated fields. Student-alumni connections are fostered through mentoring, alumni career panels, a speaker series and internships.
As a student, Lipsitz was a member of Chi Psi fraternity and the tennis team.
