Carol Weisse, Ronald M. Obenzinger Professor of Psychology and director of Health Professions, had a paper published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology-Oncology Practice with her colleague Dr. Kelly Melekis from the University of Vermont and 3 Union alumni: Alice Cheng '23, Keerthi Konda '23, and Dr. Ajay Major '12. The paper Mixed-Methods Study of End-of-Life Experiences of Patients With Hematologic Malignancies in Social Hospice Residential Home Care Settings is the result of ongoing work through research practice partnerships with community-run care homes serving hospice patients in New York’s Capital District and Western Massachusetts.
David Gillikin, the William D. Williams Professor of Geosciences, was lead investigator on two funded National Science Foundation awards totaling more than $400,000. One $137,890 award is for paleo-oceanographic research on the Red Sea. Gillikin and students will use coral skeleton geochemistry to reconstruct Red Sea circulation over the past 300 years in collaboration with colleagues at the University at Albany and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Another $265,000 award with Holli Frey, professor of geosciences, Donald Rodbell, the Jane and John Wold Professor of Geosciences, Kurt Hollocher, professor emeritus of geosciences, and Matthew Manon, lecturer of geosciences, funds the purchase of a laser ablation system for geochemical sampling of solid samples.
