Election 2024, one of six courses being offered this fall by the Union College Academy for Lifelong Learning, will delve beyond the daily news headlines to examine the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election.
The course will be taught by Cliff Brown, the Robert Porter Patterson Professor of Government at Union College, who has extensive experience in political polling, campaign analysis and election analytics and has shared his perceptive commentary with UCALL audiences throughout numerous past presidential elections.
With significant political, moral and policy disparities between the major presidential candidates and crucial congressional races on the line, this election is arguably one of the most consequential in American history, Brown noted.
Brown is one of many Union faculty members teaching UCALL classes during October and November. The other topics and faculty are:
- Race and Economics, with Stephen Schmidt, the Kenneth B. Sharpe Professor of Economics
- Science and Society, with Anastasia Pease, senior lecturer in English and Russian
- But Is It “Real?,” a literature class with Harry Marten, the Edward E. Hale Jr. Professor of English Emeritus
- Topics in History, with Andrew Morris, associate professor of history
- Language and Culture, with Karen Brison, the Roger Thayer Stone Professor of Anthropology and department chair; Daniel Mosquera, professor emeritus of Spanish and Latin American and Caribbean Studies; Junko Ueno, professor of Japanese; Kristin Bidoshi, director of Russian and East European Studies; and Maritza Osuna, senior lecturer of Spanish
The Union faculty will be joined by faculty from other colleges as well as community leaders in the law, religion, science and technology.
All classes will be held in Reamer Auditorium, with the option to join remotely via Zoom. For more information, visit the UCALL website, or contact ucall@union.edu or Director Valerie D’Amario at (518) 388-6675.
