Campus “Spirit Day” to kick off Homecoming and Family Weekend

More than 1,400 alumni and parents of current students are expected to visit campus Oct. 18-20 for Union’s annual Homecoming and Family Weekend, which is always one of the highlights of the fall term on campus. To help set the mood, College Relations, Communications and Marketing and the Union Bookstore have partnered to create a campus Spirit Day next Friday, October 18.

All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to show their Garnet Chargers pride by wearing Union gear to campus next Friday. Additionally, the Bookstore will be offering a 15 percent discount on all garnet-colored clothing from Oct. 14-17, both in the campus store and the online shop.

Some lucky community members spotted in their Union garb on Spirit Day will receive a special treat from our Garnet Chargers prize patrol. Everyone also is encouraged to snap a photo of themselves and/or their friends and post to Instagram and tag @UnionCollege with the hashtag #GarnetChargers.

Hospitality area to debut at Homecoming football game

To add to the festivities next weekend, the College will transform a portion of the hill overlooking Bailey Field into a hospitality area for the Homecoming football game against Buffalo State. The area will be located on the former site of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house, which was demolished this summer and converted into a green space.

The area will be tented with seating for 150 people and plenty of additional space to stand, and is open to all fans at the game. It will feature an expanded food menu for purchase, catered by Bon Appetit, including house-smoked pulled chicken sandwiches; hot dogs; sausage, peppers and onion subs; black bean burgers; Union cupcakes; popcorn; candy and more.

Local craft beer, national domestic beer and wine will be available for purchase, along with soda and water. (Alcoholic beverages must be consumed in the hospitality area.) Plans also call for the hospitality area to be available for Union’s final two home football games of the season on Nov. 2 and Nov. 9.

Help us celebrate the strength that lies in our Union community by showing your Garnet Chargers spirit next Friday and joining the fun on campus throughout Homecoming and Family Weekend!
