Kimmo Rosenthal, professor emeritus of mathematics, has had his book review "Literary Libertinism in Anne Garréta's 'In Concrete'" published in the October issue of the journal Sage Cigarettes. His poem, "Anastasia's Venice," inspired by the cellist Anastasia Kobekina's musical journey through Venice in her eponymously titled CD "Venice," has appeared in the October issue of The Fib Review.
Union will be hosting the NSF-funded SUITED Workshop on Friday and Saturday, November 1st and 2nd, in College Park Hall. This year's keynote speaker will be Dr. Megan O'Connor, co-founder and CEO of Nth Cycle and a Union alumna. Three other Union alumni with entrepreneurial experience are serving as mentors to the teams: Lisa Avila (CEO of Kitware), John Costa (CEO of SunThru) and Michael Newell (VP of Sales and Marketing at AvantGuard).
George Shaw, professor emeritus of geosciences, led a field trip last Wednesday though the Schenectady County Wolf Hollow Preserve for the Advisory Council of the Mohawk-Hudson Land Conservancy. On Saturday he led a field trip to Thacher State Park along the Indian Ladder Trail, for friends of the Environmental Clearinghouse of Schenectady.
Shea White '26, a project management design major, is presenting at the Africana Studies at The University at Albany, SUNY, student research conference on Saturday, November 2, 2024. The theme of the conference is “Research Day On Gender, Sexuality, Heritage, Identity/Ethnicity: A Quest For Understanding.” Through a multidisciplinary approach and world-views framework, the research emphasizes diverse perspectives and promotes multivocality. Shea, a Union golf team member, works with professor Deidre Hill Butler, chair of the sociology department, on a sociology of work independent study. The title of her presentation is "Analytical Review of the Sociology of Work."
