Timothy Barnum, assistant professor of chemistry, presented a talk titled “Conformational preferences in methoxyfuran and methoxythiophene studied by rotational spectroscopy” at the 2024 International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy. Union undergraduates Lukas Baker '22 and Nathan Riordon '26 contributed to this research. In addition, Barnum chaired a session of talks on the spectroscopy of radicals and ions.
Shailaja Paik, former visiting assistant professor of history, recently won a prestigious grant through the 2024 MacArthur Fellowship program.
