Students in the Department of Physics and Astronomy do more than just attend classes. We have an active chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) that organizes social events, movie nights, and outreach to local schools (and won SPS Chapter awards in 2009, 2010, 2015 2016, 2017, and 2018!). We have a regular colloquium series, at lunchtime on Thursdays during the academic year, which students are encouraged to attend (lunch is provided as an added enticement). We also arrange several department outings and luncheons every year.
During the summers, many of our students take part in summer research projects funded by Union College fellowships and faculty grants. Typically around 20 students do summer research projects in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
After graduation, our majors go on to a variety of interesting and exciting careers. You can learn about some of them on the alumni page.
