Housing Room Selection

Unlike new students coming to Union for the first time who are assigned rooms and roommates, returning students select their own housing assignments and roommates. Students who choose not to participate in the process will be assigned a room on a space-available basis.

Housing Selection Summary

Below are the dates for the 2025-2026 school year.

1. Complete your Housing Registration Form within your housing portal: This form will also allow you to indicate if you wish to live in a specific community (Fraternity/Sorority Housing, Minerva Housing, Affinity Housing) or be considered for Senior Off-Campus Release.

2. Match with your selected roommates: Once you’ve completed their Housing Registration Form, they will receive a confirmation email that will include a copy of the housing/dining terms and conditions, and instructions on how to complete the next steps such as Roommate Matching, and individual room selection. You will not be able to match with roommates until you have completed your General Housing Registration Form. When creating roommate groups, you or your friends may choose to pull in students from other class years without penalty.

3. Participate in your Assigned Selection Time: Each student is assigned a selection date and time - based on your current class year. This is the earliest you can select housing, but you can select through the end of the process. If you have pre-matched with roommates, you would use the earliest selection time within your roommate group.

Greek Housing & Roster Based Living

Greek Houses are roster-based living areas. This means that individuals associated with these organizations must meet specific requirements and/or be organizational members to live in these spaces. Although Greek Houses are roster-based organizations, any students interested or planning to live in their Greek communities must complete their Housing Registration Form before the due date. Chapter leadership and the house manager will work to determine the members assigned to live in their applicable chapter house. All Greek organizations are required to maintain a 92% occupancy rate over the academic year. Once included on the submitted roster, students are locked into their Greek House assignment and will not be permitted to participate in any room selection processes.

Minerva Housing Selection

Students who are interested in living in a Minerva House must complete the General Housing Registration Form in their student portal and indicate they wish to participate in the Minerva process. Failure to complete this application or indicate your desired participation in Minerva Housing will result in you not being able to participate in the selection process. Students who applied to live in their Minerva will receive their Housing selection time for the Minerva-specific selection date. If a student chooses a Minerva room during the room selection process, they are locked into that choice and will be unable to change or give up their room to participate in the general room selection process.

Affinity House Assignments

Students who are interested in living in an Affinity House must complete the General Housing Registration Form in their student portal and indicate they wish to participate in the Affinity Selection process. Failure to complete this application or indicate your desired participation in Affinity Housing will result in you not being able to participate in the selection process. More information about the 2025-2026 Affinity House program will be available prior to Winter Term.

Students On Leave from Union

Students who are on an approved leave during the Winter Term will not be eligible to participate in the selection process. As a student is approved to return, the Office of Residence Education & Housing will work to secure housing for the Spring term and upcoming academic year.

A student who has a leave approved after selecting housing for the upcoming year will have until July 1st to be approved to return to maintain their selected housing. After July 1st, the housing assignment will be canceled. If a student is approved to return after July 1st, the Office of Residence Education & Housing will work to secure housing for the upcoming academic year.

Leave processes are facilitated through the Class Deans Office. Additional information on the leave and return policy can be found here.
