Being a Resident Assistant (RA) is not only a fun experience, it’s an opportunity to be a positive role model and a student leader with students living in your residence hall. The RA position is an opportunity to learn essential skills and take on responsibilities that will be valuable in your education and future opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum Sophomore Class standing with at least one year living inside a residence hall
- A minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA at time of hire and during position
- Clear judicial background within the Office of Community Standards
- Ability to return to campus early for all terms and remain late to complete opening and closing requirements

Ability to balance time and responsibilities of RA position, academics, and extra-curricular activities effectively.
Major Responsibilities:
Resident Assistants are required to manage the following or serve as:
- Community Builder - work to develop a sense of community within assigned residential space through development of relationships, providing support, and implementing programs and activities for students.
- Peer Mentor & Supporter - Engage in community conversations around campus resources, involvement, mediation of roommate conflicts, resident concerns, etc.
- Role Model - Demonstrate appropriate and responsible behaviors on and off campus. Serve as a positive representation of the Office of Residential Education & Housing.
- Policy & Community Support - Respond to and document issues related to College and Res Ed policy violations, emergency and critical incidents, and provide overnight support as part of a building specific on-duty rotation. Complete Life and Safety Room Inspections as required.
- Teammate - Work as a member of a RA team, lead by a Community Director (CD). Collaborate with Campus resources such as Facilities, Campus Safety, Dean of Students Office, Intercultural Affairs, Health Services, Counseling Center, Student Activities and Career Center.3
- Administrator - Complete required administrative work such as bulletin boards and door decorations, attend staff meetings and trainings, paperwork and reporting, assist with open and closing of halls as well as mid-term room changes, etc.
Additional option leadership opportunities include: participating in the training and selection processes, large scale campus wide programming, serving on behalf of Res Ed on campus committees, etc.
