Today, we face increasingly complicated, urgent problems. These issues don't have straightforward histories or simple solutions -- and they often intersect. To take effective action, we need to understand them from multiple disciplinary and social perspectives.
Unlike typical general education systems that simply aim for exposure to a variety of disciplines, all three elements of Union's Complex Questions (CQ) curriculum emphasize connections between disciplines.
- You'll take one of our First Year Inquiry (FYI) seminars to sharpen your critical thinking and writing skills, diving into difficult problems that are open-ended and thought-provoking, require diverse perspectives, and cannot be easily resolved.
- Our Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program helps you develop communication skills during five courses you take both inside and outside your major.
- You'll also take several Perspectives courses, which fall into two Areas of Inquiry: "Global Challenges (G)," and "Justice, Equity, Identity, and Difference (J)". This architecture encourages you to explore issues you care about through the lenses of multiple disciplines.
