Sunthru, a startup born at Union College, is developing a window pane made of silica aerogel that could make windows more energy-efficient and cost-effective. John Costa '17 is CEO of the company. Adam Forti '17 is also a member of the Sunthru team. Ann Anderson, the Agnes S. Macdonald Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Mary Carroll '86, the Dwane W. Crichton Professor of Chemistry, invented the process for manufacturing the aerogel material.
