On Tuesday, February 12, 2019, 30 of our students and staff braved the storm to attend the Student Aid Advocacy Alliance Day or “Lobby Day” at the State Capitol in Albany.
While many attendees were forced to cancel due to inclement weather, hundreds of HEOP students from all over New York State also participated in a virtual rally in support of Advocacy Day. Using the hashtag #StandUp4StudentAid, students across the state rallied against a 17% cut for Opportunity Programs proposed in the Executive Budget, and in favor of an increase in the income eligibility level and amount of the award for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).
