Ann M. Anderson, the Agnes S. MacDonald Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Bradford A. Bruno, professor of mechanical engineering, and Mary K. Carroll '86, the Dwane W. Crichton Professor of Chemistry, have published a paper titled “PGM nanoparticle-based alumina aerogels for three-way catalyst applications” in the journal Catalysis Communications (Volume 172, 2022). Two recent Union alumni co-authored the work: Joana Santos ’20, a graduate student in mechanical engineering at Stanford, and Patrick J. Barry ’22, a graduate student in chemistry at Stony Brook University.
Tommaso Gazzarri, associate professor of classics, has published an article, “Scuola, ci si interroghi sui legami tra merito e privilegio per non cadere in tentazione” in Il Fatto Quotidiano, one of Italy’s main national newspapers. The article is about the relation between education and merit in the Italian philosophical and political debate of the 20th century.
Michele Ricci Bell, associate professor of German, has published an essay, “Disabling Traumas in Heidemarie Puls’s Schattenkinder: Hinter Torgauer Mauern” in Gegenwartsliteratur, a peer-reviewed yearbook that publishes academic research on contemporary German literature. Her article examines Puls’s 2009 memoir, an account of a young woman’s detainment in a series of East Germany’s children's homes, including the notorious Torgau prison, drawing on theoretical frameworks of trauma studies and disability studies.
