Ann M. Anderson, the Agnes S. MacDonald Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Mary K. Carroll ’86, the Dwane W. Crichton Professor of Chemistry, have co-authored a paper with Prof. Cinzia Buratti and members of her group at the University of Perugia (Italy) that is in press in the journal Solar Energy. “Optical and color rendering long-term performance of monolithic aerogel after laboratory accelerated aging: Development of a method and preliminary experimental results” (DOI: 10.1016/j.solener.2023.01.030) is the first publication from an ongoing, long-term study of aerogel materials for window applications. The paper's first author is Costanza Fiorini, PhD, who spent the Fall 2021 term performing research in the Union College Aerogel Laboratory as a visiting graduate student.
Christine Henseler, professor of Spanish and Hispanic Studies, has authored an article, “Stop Repeating Age-old Stigmas: Careers in the Arts and Humanities are Plentiful and They Pay,” on the website of 4Humanities , an advocacy initiative for which she serves as co-director. She is also the author of the guidebook, “Arts and Humanities: Don’t Leave College Without Them.”
Bonnie Cramer, director of Union College Hillel, and Jewish spiritual director and co-chair of the Jewish-Catholic Dialogue, will take part in “Love Your Neighbor,” a lunch-and-learn at Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany, March 1, noon-1:30 p.m. Cramer and Kathleen Duff, friends and neighbors for more than three decades, will discuss the biblical imperative to love one’s neighbor. Duff is a member of the Commission for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs, Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. The event is free and open to the community.
