Devin Rochelle ’23 and Nathan Constable ’23 finished first and second, respectively, in the regional ASME Old Guard Oral Presentation Competition at the Milwaukee (Wis.) School of Engineering recently. The seniors continued the Department of Mechanical Engineering’s longstanding history of success at the competition. Rochelle presented a talk, “Design of SAE Baja Portal Gearboxes with Integrated AWD System,” to win a $500 prize. Constable presented on “Design of a Solar Tracking System with Independent Sensing Unit” for a $300 prize.
Mary K. Carroll '86, the Dwane W. Crichton Professor of Chemistry and president-elect of the American Chemical Society, gave the second annual Chi Beta Phi Lecture at Keuka College in late April. Her general audience presentation on "Aerogels! Materials for the Future" was attended by faculty members, undergraduate students and members of the regional community.
Jacqueline A. Smith, research and adjunct professor of geosciences, is co-author of a paper titled “Using a post-glacial terrace sequence to better understand landscape evolution and paleohydrology in the eastern San Juan Mountains, USA,” published in the journal Geomorphology.
Kristin Bidoshi, professor of Russian and director of the Russian and East European Studies program, received an honorable mention in the 2023 classroom innovation award competition from the National Less Commonly Taught Languages Resource Center for her work on a VR experience to help students learn verbs of motion in Russian. The VR experience in the game Поехали! takes learners of Russian to destinations on and around the Union College campus.
